1951 Douglas Vespa Rod Type (early no Vespa scroll badge model)
Here we have one of the most sought after Vespas in the world, the Douglas Rod type, this scooter is characterized by it's rod linkage gear-change and headlight on the legshields, Douglas were the only factory to mount the headlight here to conform with UK law.
This example is from Nov 1951 which is the first year of production and the very early production models like this one were never fitted with the "Vespa" scroll badge which makes this one very unique and rare.
The scooter has matching frame and engine numbers and is pretty solid, last on the road in 1965 - you can see the last owner has made a few modifications and there are few drilled holes to repair but it wouldn't take much to bring this beauty back to original condition, the important bits are all there!
